Opening Night in Philadelphia

The Phillies play the Braves tonight in the first meaningful baseball game since this one.

(I was sitting in right field that night by the way.)

It's almost bittersweet that baseball is starting up again, as no matter what happens with the Phils in 2009, the '08 season will never be topped.

That said, it will be nice to start watching some meaningful games again, and Brett Myers takes the hill for his third consecutive opening day start tonight. Derek Lowe has the ball for Atlanta.

The Phils finalized their opening day 25-man roster Saturday, and so this is the crew they will set out with to defend their second World Championship.

Pitchers (12): Clay Condrey, Chad Durbin, Scott Eyre, J.A. Happ, Brad Lidge, Ryan Madson, Jack Taschner, Joe Blanton, Cole Hamels, Jamie Moyer, Brett Myers, Chan Ho Park

Catchers (2): Chris Coste, Carlos Ruiz

Infielders (7): Ryan Howard, Miguel Cairo, Chase Utley, Greg Dobbs, Eric Bruntlett, Jimmy Rollins

Outfielders (4) Raul Ibanez, Matt Stairs, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth

Even after they won the World Series last year, I realize many people will continue to underrate the Phils as is the general custom around the country. But in my opinion there are very few if any teams that are definitively better on paper than this one.

Thoughts on that?

It should be another fun season.
